Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math & Science participants can borrow laptop computers from Opportunity Resource Services to facilitate their academic and collegiate pursuits. Laptops are for use anywhere on the school campus or at home for a period of up to two weeks.
To borrow a laptop, students must request a laptop prior to the day they need it (advanced notice is required) and sign a Laptop Agreement Form. Laptops must be returned by the return date indicated in the agreement form, but laptops can be immediately reissued if no one else has made a reservation.
Stipends, field trip access, and other program benefits will be suspended when laptops are not returned at the specified due date. Once the laptop is returned, the suspension of benefits will be lifted. Additionally, laptop borrowers take full responsibility for the computers and will be required to reimburse ORS if a computer is lost, damaged, or stolen.
Please note that special security software is installed that automatically erases anything saved to the hard drive when the computer is restarted. Thus, students should save their work on a USB memory device or on a cloud server.
The Upward Bound Program and Upward Bound Math & Science Program at ORS are each 100% federally funded by the U.S. Department of Education for $267,000 annually. All programs welcome and encourage participation by interested individuals regardless of race, national origin, gender, or disability.
Opportunity Resource Services mission is to alleviate rural poverty, increase educational attainment, and improve rates of upward mobility in rural Texas communities.
